Stories That Stayed With Me — Part 1

I didn’t know it then… but I was capturing memories that would soon mean everything.

Some sessions change you.

Not because of the location, or the light, or even the photos themselves…

but because of the people in front of your lens.

Debbie and Scott were one of those sessions for me.

From the moment we started, there was something so beautiful and effortless about the way they loved each other. The kind of love you don’t have to direct or pose. I didn’t have to tell them to pretend I wasn’t there… because most of the time they truly forgot I was.

They laughed easily.

They leaned into each other like second nature.

Their foreheads touching, hands intertwined… the quiet smiles that passed between them said everything.

It was the kind of love that only comes from years of choosing each other, over and over again.

I remember standing there behind my camera thinking,

this… this is what love looks like.

What I didn’t know then was just how important those moments would become.

Not long after this session, Scott passed away.

When I heard the news, it absolutely broke my heart.

But it also reminded me — in the deepest way — why what I do matters so much.

Because photos aren’t just photos.

They are the way we hold onto moments that time would otherwise take from us.

The laughter.

The way he looked at her.

The way their foreheads met in the golden light.

The quiet, beautiful love that filled that evening.

Debbie now has these moments to hold onto as she navigates life without the love of her life.

And I will forever be grateful that I was there that day to capture them.

This session left a mark on my heart in the best way.

Because photography isn’t really about pictures.

It’s about preserving love… even when life changes.
